Plataforma per la Llengua, BCN Game Fest and Retrobarcelona are joining forces to organise SAGA Barcelona Game Fest, which will be the biggest videogame fair in southern Europe. It will be held on 9, 10 and 11 October at the Barcelona trade fair complex at Montjuïc and it will bring together professionals from the sector, developer studies, videogame publishers, content creators and fans in an area that is growing to 14,000 square metres. The new trade fair already has a website, as well as Instagram, X, TikTok and BlueSky profiles.
The new event springs from the merger of the sector's three leading fairs and the aim is to establish it as the principal meeting point for the videogame industry. The fair will combine activities aimed at the general public with others for sector professionals. On Friday 9 October, especially in the morning, activities for professionals and students on courses linked to videogames will take centre stage.
The SAGA Barcelona Game Fest will be a great chance for networking and exchanging ideas and it will raise the profile of emerging projects. It will have a B2B (business-to-business) area for business meetings and contacts, which will be promoted via the MeetToMatch (M2M) platform. The event also represents a step forward in terms of internationalisation, as studies and projects from more than 35 countries are expected to take part.
The fair will be highly attractive to the general public too. It will include videogame exhibition stands, with trials of new games, specialist shops and merchandise sale areas. There will also be an e-sports and competition area, a large zone for publicising and preserving retro videogames, a family leisure activity section, and a space devoted to good food. The event will include many workshops, podcasts, lectures, talks and round tables.
A chance to strengthen the Catalan industry and language in the world of videogames
The organisers believe their alliance will further strengthen the videogame industry, because it will bring together studies and businesses that until now have not taken part in any of the previous fairs at the same event. This concentration could encourage the creation of alliances and synergies between businesses and players in the sector, and increase the presence of Catalan in videogames. The language will be taken into account throughout an event that will be bigger in terms of stands, businesses, attendees and activities.
Full details of the fair will be announced soon.
